![]() So whenever your farmer wants to plant something, but a hauler is bringing some seeds collected from the dining room for storage? Cancellation spam. Farmers only grab a single seed at a time when planting, probably so that multiple farmers won't try and plant multiple seeds on the same tile. Regardless, it's the bane of your farmers and textile workers alike. I believe this is to avoid bugs when one dorf wants to move a barrel and the other wants to store something in it. Ditto for when the container is being hauled itself. You'll see a "TSK" next to the item in question. When a dorf wants to take something out of/put something in a barrel, the entire container becomes hidden from every other entity on the map. Without bags, your dorfs will never store them in a barrel! The single seeds will just eat up an entire stockpile tile otherwise, or the seeds will be left inside your still, farmers workshop, strewn across teh dining room, etc.Īnd the cancelation spam inherent to bins and barrels is the bane of all our existence. seeds and certain food go into bags first, then those bags go into barrels. I've generally only done this on more mature forts, but it probably works just starting out too.Īnd another thing about barrels. From what I've seen, telling a food stockpile to give to a furniture stockpile tends to return any empty barrels. You can slowly bump this number up as needed. Otherwise, that stockpile will keep every barrel. You can then reduce the number of barrels that stockpile allows as a temporary measure early on. The food stockpile will probably need that barrel later, so it stays put. You should see some numbers about "min/max barrels" Stockpiles tend to hold onto empty containers in some type of reserve system. These things hurt my brain and I cannot wait until i fully understand them and can move on. In addition to an answer to my question, I'd appreciate any extra barrel info you can provide. Why is this? Why wouldn't a dwarf take the empty barrel from the drink stockpile and put it in the barrel stockpile? This is also happening in my seeds and plants stockpile. ![]() But when a dwarf finishes off a barrel that has drinks in it, the empty barrel goes back into the drink pile, instead of into my empty barrel stockpile. I have a stockpile for empty barrels, which is working fine. ![]() ![]() I've read all barrel related wiki pages, forum posts, anything I could find on the internet, but I haven't been able to completely satiate my barrel curiosity. And the fact that I don't fully understand how barrels work and that they're not behaving the way I expect them to is incredibly frustrating to me. I'm an extreme over thinker, it's one of my worst qualities. Right now, the bane of my existence is barrels. Okay, so I'm brand new to dwarf fortress, and I'm following along with that O'Reilly book.
